With Young Justice set to make its long-awaited return next year, on DC's upcoming streaming service, fans may be looking for something to bide the time - the show's creators have a few recomendations.
The creative team behind Young Justice: Outsiders recently sat down with Comicbook.com and revealed that, should fans be wanting an incling of what to expect from the coming season, the comic-book series "Batman and the Outsiders" may hold a few hints.
Co-creator Greg Weisman said, "Batman and the Outsiders, I suppose, is a big one. Specifically for the first few episodes." Brandon Vietti, the show's other co-creator, later elaborated:
We’re kind of riffing on that, doing our Earth-16 version of that story. Our entire series has been granted by DC the designation of Earth-16 and we really lean into that. There are a lot of reminders of that throughout the season. The number ‘16’ pops up quite a lot.
It also allows us to kind of riff on the comic books rather than have to stick to them very faithfully. What we try to do is at least really pay respect to the characters or storylines that we’re riffing off of so that hardcore fans really feel that respect but also can be surprised. The hardcore fans that know these stories and know these characters inside and out, we want something new and something fresh, a different take. And then for new people coming onboard hopefully they’ll be able to see our stuff and go backward and see what the source material was and rediscover the DC Universe as we have.
"Batman and the Outsiders" was a series which launched in 1983 and saw Batman breakup with the Justice League and create his own team of superheroes. The original line-up consisted of Batman, Black Lightning, Metamorpho, Geo-Force, Katana, Halo and Looker. A later incarnation of the Outsiders from early 2000s comics was led by Nightwing and Arsenal - two Young Justice vets.
What do you think of the creators' comments? Will you be checking out "Batman and the Outsiders" in anticipation of Young Justice: Outsiders?
