Two New SPAWN Animated Series Are Reportedly In The Works; One Will Be Aimed Primarily At Kids
While Blumhouse's planned live-action reboot has received the most attention, Image Comics co-founder Todd McFarlane recently revealed that he's had several meetings about developing two new Spawn series.
Fans of the popular Image Comics character haven't seen the popular anti-hero appear on the small screen since HBO's animated Spawn series ended its three-season run in the '90s, but now the character's creator has revealed that two new animated projects are in the works.
According to CBR, Todd McFarland reportedly revealed that two new series were being developed during his recent appearance at Fan Expo Canada. Since these two shows are likely in the very early stages of development, the creator couldn't reveal a whole lot of details, but he did note that one show would be aimed at kids while the other would target adults.
"We’re talking right now. I just had a couple meetings this weekend about a couple different animation looks, both something that we can get kids in at a younger age and then get them into the sort of crack cocaine version of Spawn. And then do the adult one. So we’re talking about that. I think both of those come after the movie."
Based on this statement its unclear how the a possible series would do to appeal to children, as the property is known for featuring graphic content, and the previous HBO program was aimed entirely at adults.
Either way, even if these series do get the greenlight, McFarlane's comments suggest they won't air until after the release of the live-action Spawn reboot, a project that's languished in development hell for years.
