You're getting another shot at seeing The Transformers: The Movie on the big screen!
Fathom Entertainment and Hasbro billed the 40th anniversary run as six days only, and it was expected to wrap up Wednesday. Hasbro's official Transformers account posted "WE ADDED MORE DATES," and The Hollywood Reporter says hundreds of theaters around the world are keeping it, with some showtimes running through October 7th.
Dates vary from place to place, so pull up Fandango before you make plans.
The best part? Optimus Prime: Awakening is coming along for the ride!
Fathom says the all-new CG short, which Hasbro puts at 12 minutes, is still part of every screening, right after the credits. It's Peter Cullen's final original performance as Optimus Prime, with Frank Welker back as Megatron and Soundwave (we covered it here on Monday). Cullen passed away on August 26th, just weeks before the re-release hit theaters.
If you're heading to the theater to catch it before its run ends, there are two things to make sure of:
- Arrive on time! There's a great tribute to the late Peter Cullen before the movie starts. The screening I went to didn't have any trailers beforehand, so be in your seat before the lights dim!
- Stay after the credits roll, even if the lights come on early (as they did at my screening). Awakening is DEFINITELY one to catch in theaters!
The re-release made an estimated $4,156,531 in its first four days, according to Box Office Mojo, including $3,103,922 over the weekend for 7th place.
THR says the worldwide total had crossed $5 million by Tuesday.
The whole 1986 theatrical run made $5,849,647 in North America. In raw dollars, that leaves the re-release about $1.7 million short of catching it, and that's before any of this week's numbers are in!
"We're thrilled at Fathom, but we also had high expectations," Fathom's VP of marketing, Shannah Miller, told THR.
It's Fathom's No. 3 release of 2026 so far, trailing only The Amazing Digital Circus and a re-release of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
My three boys (they're technically all adults) and I saw it Tuesday evening. I hadn't realized they had never seen it before!
They liked the film, but they felt it was rushed. Which, if we're being honest, it is. There's a LOT crammed into it!
Two of them liked the soundtrack and one didn't. I personally LOVE it, and I may need to do a write-up digging into it further, because I didn't realize who all of the names and bands on it were. Some of them were huge in the late 80s and early 90s... There's a reason why so much of it sounds familiar!
If you're a fan like me, the original soundtrack is on vinyl. There's also an Amazon-exclusive vinyl of The Transformers: The Movie: The Soundtrack: The Reformatted Edition, which opens with a new recording of "The Touch" from Knights of Unicron featuring Stan Bush. If you pick it up from Amazon, they include a free digital version of the album, so you can start listening right away!

For your shelf, Shout!'s 40th Anniversary Limited Edition 4K steelbook comes out November 17th. Shout! hasn't said whether Awakening made the disc.
Can't wait that long? The 35th Anniversary Blu-ray is out now, and Chris Prince's The Transformers: The Movie: The Ultimate Visual History hardcover is due November 24th, and pre-orders are open.
Are you making it out before it's gone this time? What's your favorite track from the soundtrack?
