During yesterday's Investor Day, Disney finally blew the lid off of Disney+, revealing all of the content hitting the streaming service in the first year. It includes more than 25 original series and 10 original films, documentaries, and specials. Chief among them will be Disney's CGI powerhouse Pixar Animation Studios, which will launch two new original projects related to
Toy Story.
We don't yet have full details, but the two projects are
Forky Asks a Question, an animated short series starring the spork-turned-toy, and a short film titled
Lamp Life, which will star the adventurous Bo Peep. Both
Forky Asks a Question and
Lamp Life figure to tie in prominently to
Toy Story 4, as Forky and Bo Peep are pretty big characters in the upcoming movie.
Forky, of course, is a fascinating creation by Bonnie - a spork with eyeballs - who struggles to accept his role as a toy and not a utensil. His running away is what seemingly sparks the latest adventure for Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the toys. On their adventure, they will run into Bo Peep, who has been off on her own adventure in the big world.
Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.
Toy Story 4 actually hits theaters first this summer on June 21, 2019. Disney+, meanwhile, is set to launch on November 12. Forky Asks A Question will be available on launch day, while
Lamp Life's release date was not announced. In any case, more
Toy Story is never a bad thing and expanding on this beloved franchise through mini-series and shorts might be a good way to appease fans not ready to let go of these childhood toys we grew up with on screen.
On a somewhat related note, it was also confirmed that the entire Pixar catalog of full-length movies will be released on Disney+ within the first year with the studio's short films available on day one.
