Following the release of Hari Kondabolu's well-known documentary, The Problem With Apu, the fan-favourite character has become a talking-point the world over. Kondabolu's non-fiction film explores encounters with negative stereotypes, racial microaggressions and slurs against people of Indian and South Asian heritage disseminated through the character of Apu from The Simpsons.

The situation itself has proven quite divisive amongst fans and even the cast of the show. Hank Azaria, who voices many characters on The Simpsons including Apu, relinquished that he'd be willing to step down from the part should the masses want as such.

Entertainment journalist Fred Topel recently took to social media to recall a conversation he'd had with, creator of The Simpsons, Matt Groening on the subject. Check out Topel's tweet below:

While it doesn's sound as if Groening and Azaria have discussed the prospect; Groening seems to be fully in-support of the voice actor's comments and open to anymore he may have down the line.

What do you think about Groening's comments? What do you think about The Problem With Apu?
