The Flintstones are about to enter a new age. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Fox has teamed up with Warner Bros. Animation and executive producer Elizabeth Banks to develop Bedrock, a sequel to the classic animated series from Hanna-Barbera that aired in the 1960s.

Bedrock will focus on a grown-up, 20-something Pebbles Flinstone (voiced by Banks) as she begins her own career just as her dad, Fred, nears retirement. The series will take us from the Stone Age and into the enlightened new Bronze Age. As per THR, "the residents of Bedrock will find this evolution 'harder than a swing from Bamm-Bamm's club,' per the show's logline."

Lindsay Kerns (Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, DC Super Hero Girls) is on board to write the pilot script

The Flintstones originally aired on ABC from September 30, 1960, to April 1, 1966. It was the first animated series to hold a prime-time slot on television. It ran for six seasons and a total of 166 episodes, while also spawning numerous spinoff television series and specials, animated and live-action films, and even educational films.

"Long before the Simpsons and Springfield, the Griffins and Quahog or even when the Belchers started serving burgers on Ocean Avenue, there were the Flintstones and Bedrock," said Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn. "Their imprint on the animation universe is undeniable and the idea of adapting it for today's audience is a challenge we here at Fox are very much looking forward to taking on with Warner Bros., Elizabeth and Lindsay. No pressure whatsoever, really."

"The Flintstones are the first family of primetime animation," added Peter Girardi, executive vp alternative programming at Warner Bros. Animation. "Elizabeth and Lindsay have a brilliant take on these characters, and Fox and [Banks' company] Brownstone are the perfect partners to bring them back to primetime. This is going to rock (sorry)."

Are you excited to return to Bedrock and experience the enlightened new Bronze Age with the Flintstones?
