Though the Star Wars prequels (Episodes 1, 2, and 3) garnered a subpar reception from audiences; Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the animated series which went about telling genuinely compelling stories within the pre-original-trilogy world, certainly grew into quite the fan-favourite.
A decade ago an animated movie was released which introduced Star Wars fans to this new spin on the Star Wars universe, and though this introductory movie was divisive, the six season-long series which sprung out of it became acclaimed within the community.
Though the show met its end in 2014, after Disney's acquisition of the Star Wars brand, it lived on through Star Wars Rebels - another animated show which focused on different characters as well as taking place at a different time within the Star Wars universe. A panel will be held at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con event to celebrate The Clone Wars' 10-year milestone.
Lucasfilm's announcement reads as such:
In the summer of 2008, Star Wars: The Clone Wars made its debut, following young Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano and her master Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars — along with clones, Sith, senators, Jedi, and more heroes and villains of a galaxy far, far away.
The show was created and executive produced by George Lucas and shepherded by Filoni, further exploring the characters of the films, while introducing some major new ones. Running for six seasons, Star Wars: The Clone Wars became an Emmy winner and a generation’s entry point into the saga, and changed Star Wars forever.
