"It's been a while." You're darn right it has, Ahsoka.
Following Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm,
Star Wars: The Clone Wars was unceremoniously canceled in 2013, leaving fans without a proper ending. Now, on its 10th anniversary, Disney has announced the show's return.
During today's San Diego Comic-Con panel, fans were treated to the surprise announcement that
Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be returning with 12 new episodes on Disney's direct-to-consumer streaming service. A trailer teasing the show's revival was shown off during the panel as well, which you can check out below.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars was created by George Lucas and aired in 2008. During its five-season run, the CGI animated series explored the three-year period between
Episode II: Attack of the Clones and
Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. It featured familiar characters including Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padme Amidala, Darth Maul and Yoda, and also introduced some new fan-favorites, like Ahsoka Tano, Cad Bane, Captain Rex and more.
The show concluded with Ahsoka leaving the Jedi Order and although a few post-Season Five episodes were released as "The Lost Missions," the story never officially came to a fitting conclusion. These 12 episodes should finally wrap up the story once and for all.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars does not yet have a return date, but Disney's streaming service is expected to launch in fall 2019.
