STAR TREK: PRODIGY CG-Animated Series Sets A Course For Nickelodeon In 2021

Star Trek: Prodigy was revealed to be the official name of the CG-animated series heading to Nickelodeon in 2021. It will follow a group of teenagers who discover a derelict Starfleet ship.

CBS is continuing to expand the Star Trek universe and, with the 2019 merger with Viacom, has now set a course for Nickelodeon. Star Trek: Prodigy, a new CG-animated series, was officially revealed today along with a logo and brief synopsis.

Developed by Emmy Award winners Kevin and Dan Hageman (Trollhunters, Ninjago), Star Trek: Prodigy "follows a group of lawless teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning and salvation." We first heard word of the new Nickelodeon series earlier this year, but the official name and logo were revealed during the Star Trek Universe panel at [email protected], a digital event meant to capture the spirit of Comic-Con since the physical event has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

With Star Trek: Prodigy heading ot Nickelodeon, CBS is hoping to expand the sci-fi universe and attract a younger audience. It will be developed by CBS' Eye Animation Productions, Secret Hideout, and Roddenberry Entertainment with Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Katie Krentz, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth serving alongside Kevin and Dan Hageman as executive producers.

CBS has made tremendous strides in expanding the Star Trek franchise. The companies streaming service, CBS All Access, is currently home to multiple hit original series, including Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Discovery, and Star Trek: Lower Decks, another animated series. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was also recently announced along with the development of a Section 31-based series with Michelle Yeoh.
