HBO Max launches May 2020 at a price tag of $14.99/month, and will boast a slew of animated programs- both new and old. Anchoring the animation side of the platform will be the entire library of
South Park and
Rick and Morty. The big acquisition was the 23-season library of
South Park which was awarded for somewhere between $500-$559 million USD. HBO Max was said to be in a fierce bidding competition with Hulu for the series.
In addition, all original Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Hanna-Barbera and Rooster Teeth animation series will also be part of the HBO Max package. However, HBO Max has the highest price tag among all the other streaming options available in North America, leaving some to wonder if HBO is pricing themselves out of being truly competitive. T
ouching on this subject in a recent presentation to investors, CEO of WarnerMedia John Stankey stated, "
Disney Plus is a good product. They’ve done a nice job. The strongest appeal of Disney Plus is to the youth of the family. Its strength to satisfy the other members of the family—it’s not that deep." With just under three months until the launch of HBO Max, it won't be long before the numbers come in and reveal whether the more adult-oriented content at HBO Max garners similar or greater interest.
