Nintendo and Game Freak released the long-awaited
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield last week, and the games have actually been selling quite well; in spite of all the controversy regarding the lack of Pokémon creatures, and Game Freak reusing assets.
Just yesterday, video game sales charts in the United Kingdom revealed that
Pokémon Sword had taken the Number #1 spot, managing to dethrone
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and outselling
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order — which actually released on the same date as
Pokémon Sword/Shield.
As it turns out,
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield are also selling amazingly well in Japan, as information shared by Game Data Library has revealed that both titles combined have already sold a staggering 1,364,544 copies in three days after the release in Japan.
With those sales numbers,
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield have also managed to become the best-selling video game of the year in Japan; most definitely a huge win for both Game Freak and Nintendo.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be set in Galar, an expansive region with many environments—idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forests, and craggy, snow-covered mountains. The people and Pokémon live together in this region, and they’ve worked together to develop the industries here.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are currently available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
