In spite of all the controversy about Game Freak being put on the spot for reusing assets and not including the whole Pokédex, the recently released
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield have had quite the massive launch in the United Kingdom.
According to the UK charts, it is
Pokémon Sword the one that players have been purchasing the most, while
Pokémon Shield comfortably sits in the 3rd position. What's even more interesting is the fact that
Pokémon Sword has single-handedly managed to beat out Respawn Entertainment's
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order; a game that is available on more platforms than
Pokémon Sword.
The information revealed by Games Industry reveals that
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield is the second biggest launch for the
Pokémon series, trailing behind the Nintendo 3DS'
Pokémon Sun and
Pokémon Moon with a 39% lower in terms of sales.
It is also worth mentioning that these sales only amount for boxed copies of the games, so this information may be somewhat biased, especially since some players decide to purchase these games digitally in order to have access to them as soon as they release.
Regardless,
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield having such a massive launch in the United Kingdom is still great news for Game Freak, Nintendo, and The Pokémon Company; not to mention players themselves, who finally have the chance to play a new
Pokémon game.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be set in Galar, an expansive region with many environments—idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forests, and craggy, snow-covered mountains. The people and Pokémon live together in this region, and they’ve worked together to develop the industries here.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are currently available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
