Niantic announced that 2020 would mark the beginning of something new for
Pokémon Go, and that is experimental events. Trainers got their first experience with one of these Saturday with the February Community Day Voting Event, and there were also two additional experiments announced for the month.
To come is the Mystery Bonus Hour, and when we have it we'll share all the details surrounding that event, but today we're here to discuss the first ever Pokémon Spotlight Hour. On Tuesday February 4th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time, the event took place and an unannounced creature who wound up being Generation I's Onix appeared more frequently with a higher chance at it's already increased shiny availability.
The Pokémon Spotlight Hour certainly made for an interesting event, as Niantic didn't warn players which creature would be appearing. This is likely in the hopes that more people would head out instead of choosing not to partake in the event based on the featured creature.
What do you think of this new formula? Do you hope to see it again in future months or would you prefer to stick to Community Day events? Let us know your thoughts below!
