Disney bolstered its entertainment lineup for Disney+, announcing today a new Monsters, Inc. series coming to streaming service in 2020.
The series will pick up six months after the original film, with the energy-producing factory powering the city of Monstropolis with children's joyous laughter instead of frightened screams.
Original stars Billy Crystal and John Goodman are both returning to voice their characters Mike (with one "eye") and Sulley, respectively. What's unclear is if this dynamic scare duo from the movies will remain the primary focal point of the series, which will intorduce a new character, Tylor (voiced by Ben Feldman). Tylor is described as "an eager and talented young mechanic at the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team (MIFT) who dreams of working his way up to the Laugh Floor to become a Jokester like his idols Mike and Sulley," suggesting the series might follow his career through Monsters, Inc.
Also returning for the series is Jennifer Tilly, who will represise her role as Celia, Mike's Schmoopsie-Poo. John Ratzenberger will also return as Yeti, and voice a new character named Bernard.
In addition to these returning characters, the Monsters, Inc. series is full of new characters voiced by some of Hollywood's biggest stars, including Kelly Marie Tran as Val Little, Tylor’s lifelong friend and confidante; Henry Winkler as Fritz, the scatterbrained boss; Lucas Neff as Duncan, an opportunistic plumber; Alanna Ubach as Cutter, the rule follower; Stephen Stanton as Smitty and Needleman, the bumbling custodial team, and Aisha Tyler as Tylor’s mom Millie Tuskmon.
Perhaps the most exciting reveal, however, is that Roz has a twin sister - Roze, voiced by none other than Bob Peterson.
The Monsters, Inc. animated series will premiere on Disney+ in 2020. However, the streaming service is slated to launch later this year.
