Looney Tunes Cartoons debuted on May 27th. It's exclusively available on the HBO Max streaming service. Of course, it's the newest version of the classic Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shows. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the series was developed by Peter Browngardt — who is best known for creating Secret Mountain Fort Awesome and Uncle Grandpa.

The new animated series consists of gag-filled shorts, just like the originals, and features iconic characters such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and many more. However, the world at large is much different from how it was back when the Looney Tunes originally debuted — all the way back in 1930.

This new version of the Looney Tunes will adamantly not feature firearms, Browngardt recently told The New York Times.

That means characters like Elmer Fudd (Bugs Bunny's nemesis) and Yosemite Sam will no longer wield their rifle and revolvers, respectively. Instead, as you can see below, characters like Elmer Fudd will rely on weapons such as a scythe — which we all know is much less violent than a gun.

Though it's certainly a notable change, relative to previous Looney Tunes series, Looney Tunes Cartoons doesn't seem to have been much hurt by the change as it's managing to be one of HBO Max's most popular offerings — even more so than Game of Thrones.

Starring the cherished Looney Tunes characters, Looney Tunes Cartoons echoes the high production value and process of the original Looney Tunes theatrical shorts with a cartoonist-driven approach to storytelling.

Marquee Looney Tunes characters will be featured in their classic pairings in simple, gag-driven and visually vibrant stories. The new series from Warner Bros. Animation is comprised of animated shorts that vary in length and includes adapted storylines for today’s audience.

Looney Tunes Cartoons is now streaming on HBO Max.
