2015's
Jurassic World successfully rebooted the blockbuster franchise and now we're getting a new animated series on Netflix that'll further expand the story. The newly announced
Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is an upcoming animated series from DreamWorks Animation that takes us to the other side of Isla Nublar where follows a group of teenagers attending an adventure camp on the dino island are are left stranded after the dinosaur outbreak.
As an animated series,
Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous will probably have more of a light-hearted tone that focuses on the campers working together and becoming a close-knit family to survive. But it's still considered an action-adventure series, so we can expect plenty of adrenaline-fueled dinosaur moments.
Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is being executive produced by original
Jurassic Park director Steven Spielberg, along with industry legend Frank Marshall and
Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow. Scott Kreamer (
Pinky Malinky) and Lane Lueras (
Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny) are also serving as showrunners and executive producers.
Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous follows a group of six teenagers chosen for a once-in-a-lifetime experience at a new adventure camp on the opposite side of Isla Nublar. But when dinosaurs wreak havoc across the island, the campers are stranded. Unable to reach the outside world, they’ll need to go from strangers to friends to family if they’re going to survive.
Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous will premiere on Netflix in 2020.
In the meantime, DreamWorks Animation will be bringing two new animated series to Netflix in 2019:
Archibald’s Next Big Thing from executive producer Tony Hale and
Fast & Furious. In total, the DreamWorks and Netflix partnership has resulted in more than 18 original series debuting on the streaming service, including the
Tales of Arcadia trilogy from Guillermo del Toro,
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power,
Spirit Riding Free, and
The Boss Baby: Back in Business.
