New movies based on hit Fox's comedy animated series
The Simpsons and
Family Guy are reportedly in development, according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal. In an effort to "revamp" the studio's approach to animation, Fox Chief Executive Stacey Snider is
"bringing in a new partner to replace an expired deal with DreamWorks Animation after it was acquired by Comcast Corp."
Obviously, it's still far too early to talk to specifics, but this will be the second movie based on
The Simpsons, which is entering its 30th season this September. The original
Simpsons Movie was released in 2007 and
was met with enthusiastic response. This news may be a bit confusing in light of Disney's recent acquisition of 20th Century Fox, but
reports have claimed that Fox will retain the rights to The Simpsons.
The
Family Guy movie, meanwhile, is said to be a mix of animation and live-action. The adult animated comedy series is entering its 17th season, which will premiere on September 30, 2018. Again, there are no specific details, but we can assume that the show's cast members will voice their characters in the movie as well.
A
Bob's Burgers movie is also reportedly in development, though we heard talk of this last year as well. The movie was previously said to be targeting a 2020 release.
Bob's Burgers will be premiering its ninth season on September 30, as well.
