The Walt Disney Company continues to bolster its Disney+ lineup, announcing that a reboot of its classic animated series
Chip 'n' Dale is in production and set to release on the streaming service.
The series is being developed by Disney's London-based animation team in collaboration with Xilam Animation, and
"will combine traditional animation style with contemporary, comedic narratives," Deadline
reports. Disney+ will host 39 seven-minute episodes following the comedic adventures of the non-verbal chipmunk duo in the big city.
Chip and Dale were created at Walt Disney Productions in 1943, first appearing in
Private Pluto. But they've been incorporated into numerous other stories involving Disney's iconic characters, typically serving as the antagonists against Donald Duck, Pluto, and Mickey Mouse. The duo became the title characters in
Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, animated series that ran for three seasons from 1989 to 1990. In the show, the two chipmunks started a detective agency, Rescue Rangers, to deal with crimes deemed "too small" for the police to handle.
In addition to
Chip 'n' Dale, Disney also added animated series
101 Dalmatians Street and
Bluey to the Disney+ lineup.
