Following the recent acquisition of 20th Century Fox by Disney,
The Simpsons has gained a brand new home. Disney recently announced that the iconic animated-comedy series is to air on not only FX and Fox networks but also on Freeform.
A new report from
Deadline has explained these upcoming changes. Disney's Freeform network will begin airing
The Simpsons in September of this year. The episodes airing on Freeform will be repeats, their hours in total amounting to around ten per week.
The off-network rights will be shared between Freeform and FXX, with fifty episodes airing on FXX per week (that's about twenty-five hours versus Freeform's ten). New episodes of the family series will still premiere on Fox, the show having been renewed for another two seasons (its 31st and 32nd).
As the franchise is now under Disney's ownership, Fox will need to pay licensing fees to the company in order to run episodes. So it stands to reason that either
The Simpsons won't be renewed beyond its upcoming 32nd season or Disney will move the show to another network.
