Sharing Netflix passwords has become the norm among most North American viewers of the streaming service. In a recent interview, a high executive at the company reveals that the streaming giant loses billions every year due to subscribers sharing their passwords with friends and acquittances.
So what will Disney+ due to combat this phenomenon? Some financialy anylist predict that by 2025, their could be as many as 100 million subrscribers of the new steaming option, which launches tomorrow. Speaking to CNBC, Bob Iger was asked if Disney+ would enact someting similar to Netflix's recent declaration that they would soon begin cracking down on shared passwords.
"I think it’ll be similar to what others are doing. It’s obviously something we’ll be mindful of. We’re setting up a service that is very family friendly, we expect families to be able to consume it — four live streams at a time, for instance. We’ll watch it carefully with the various tools, technology tools, that we have available to us to monitor it. But it’s obviously something we have to watch."
It sounds as if there will be some sort of policy in place regarding shared passwords and technology in place to lock accounts that suspected of unautorized use. It won't be long before everyone learns what the penalty is as the launch of Disney+ is just mere hours away.
