Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker will arrive in theatres in just a couple of days. The sequel is set to bring an end to the long-running, science-fiction saga. However, the franchise will live on through ulterior media such as spinoffs and animated series such as
Star Wars: The Clone Wars and
Star Wars Rebels.
On that topic, the director of
Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker recently appeared to teased that a certain fan-favourite character will make an appearance in the upcoming film. Ahsoka Tano is a Padawan turned Jedi who first debuted in
Star Wars: The Clone Wars, heavily featured in
Star Wars Rebels, and will once again feature in
Star Wars: The Clone Wars when it returns on Disney+.
During a recent interview (via
StarWarsNet.com), Abrams asked a fan who their favourite Star Wars character was. There response went as such:
"Me? Ahsoka Tano. Sorry for picking someone who only appears in the animated stuff [Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels], but I really like her positive, determined personality."
Following that, Abrams had this to say: "Hmmm, Ahsoka, huh? Well then you’ll probably want to watch closely during The Rise of Skywalker." Then, to the shocked disbelief of the fan, JJ closed with: "Hahaha, well, enjoy the movie!"
It's certainly an exciting prospect to consider that a character who featured in the Star Wars animated series could feature in the upcoming instalment. However, Abrams is most likely teasing a brief and subtle reference rather than an overt cameo. Still, we can keep our fingers crossed.
