Cartoon Networks' new animated series
DC Super Hero Girls is all about self-empowerment and building character. The first trailer for the upcoming cartoon exudes such confidence and girl power.
"I've got my girls and they've got me. There's no way you can defeat us. I'm ready to rise," the trailer's background song rings, accompanying footage of Diana (Wonder Woman), Kara (Supergirl), and Barbara (Batgirl) - alongside a squad of their Super Hero friends - kicking some serious Super-Villain butt.
But
DC Super Hero Girls is more than about just saving Metropolis. These crime-fighting besties and diverse group of super-teens are trying to navigate the ups-and-downs of teenage social - managing the chaos of school, friends, and family. As most teens will likely agree, managing the everyday stress of social life is difficult enough; add the challenge of having superpowers and a secret identity, and "things can get a lot more complicated," the show teases.
Saving the day is super easy when you’re a Super Hero. But stopping evil in its tracks while keeping up grades and managing a social life, all before curfew? Ugh. That’s, like, super tough. DC Super Hero Girls are more than crime-fighting besties, they’re a diverse group of dedicated super-teens! Working together, they fight the battles of Metropolis and the battles of growing, up all at the same time. Always discovering new ways to control their powers and abilities, these awesome girls are quickly learning (sometimes the hard way) how to deal with the super challenges of being a teenage Super Hero.
While DC Super Hero Girls is based on the iconic characters from the DC Universe, you can see they've undergone a fresh makeover. While Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network are calling it an all-new animated action-comedy series, it's actually inspired by a franchise of direct-to-video movies and webisodes.
DC Super Hero Girls will premiere with a one-hour special movie, "Sweet Justice," on Friday, March 8 at 6:00 p.m. ET/PT, across all Cartoon Network platforms. Additional new episodes will air every Sunday at 4:00 p.m. ET/PT, beginning March 17. The series will be further supported with new YouTube shorts, graphic novels, games, and more.
