After eight years, Cartoon Network's groundbreaking animated series
Adventure Time will come to an end tomorrow. The series finale will air on September 3, marking an emotional farewell for all involved with the beloved show.
Based on a 2007 short,
Adventure Time officially debuted in 2010 and quickly become one of the most popular and influential programs in the network's history. The series, which spans nearly 300 11-minute episodes, follows the adventures of best friends Finn and his shape-shifting dog Jake in the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo where they meet all sorts of interesting characters. The show's popularity has spread to comic books, video games, toys and more. Unfortunately, though, all good things must come to an end.
Speaking to Variety, series showrunner Adam Muto says he hopes the
Adventure Time finale will give fans something important to take away.
I do hope they feel something — the most I can hope for is that they feel something. Happiness, joy, sadness. I just hope they feel something. It’s so collaborative — the writers, designers, the crew — it’s too much to pin on one person. I was very fortunate to work with this crew. We were very fortunate that people watched and liked it.
The final episodes of
Adventure Time will air on Cartoon Network on September 3. A new DVD box titled
Adventure Time: The Final Season will be available on September 4. It will contain the entirety of seasons eight, nine, and ten.
