RUGRATS Coming To Paramount+ This Spring; Check Out The First Clip Of Nickelodeon's CG-Animated Reboot
Nickelodeon's beloved '90s cartoon Rugrats is returning in CG-animated form on Paramount+ along with the original voice cast reprising their roles. We've already got our first look at the reboot below!
The Rugrats are returning to television and after being away for over a decade, they still haven't grown up. The classic '90s Nickelodeon cartoon about a group of adventurous and curious toddlers is being rebooted exclusively for the Paramount+ streaming service.
Rather than returning in their traditional animated form, this new Rugrats reboot will be reimagined with CG-animation. The series is set to premiere in Spring 2021 and we've already got our first clip.
Not only do the beloved toddlers still look and act the same, but they sound the same too! That's because the original voice cast has returned to reprise their roles: E.G. Daily as Tommy; Nancy Cartwright as Chuckie; Cheryl Chase as Angelica; Cree Summer as Susie; and Kath Soucie as the twins Phil and Lil.
“Rugrats is one of the most iconic cartoons recognized by fans around the globe, and this original version is one we are taking great care and pride in creating for a brand-new audience,” Nickelodeon Animation president Ramsey Naito said in a statement. “Having the voice cast behind these special characters come together is one of the essential pieces to making the show recognizable and we can’t wait to watch this talented group bring them to life again.”
The original Rugrats first debuted in August 1991. It ran for 9 seasons for a total of 172 episodes from 1992 to 2004. Rugrats is one of Nickelodeon's most popular and iconic series, and a staple in almost every '90s kid childhood. During its run, the series earned four Daytime Emmy Awards, six Kids' Choice Awards and its own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The new Rugrats reboot is clearly inspired by the original series created Arlene Klasky, Gabor Csupo and Paul Germain. And while the toddlers are now in CG-animated form, it still looks like they're getting into to the same ol' trouble.
Nickelodeon's Rugrats reboot is set to debut this spring on Paramount+. As a reminder, Paramount+ is an expansion and rebrand of the already-existing CBS All Access streaming service. It is set to launch on March 4, 2021.
