News of The Venture Bros.' cancellation first surfaced when Ken Plume, the author of the show's official art book, Go Team Venture!: The Art and Making of the Venture Bros. participated in a Twitter about shows that were canceled too soon. Of course, this shocked fans of the long-running Adult Swim show as there'd been no word from Adult Swim or Cartoon Network about the show's fate.

Well, a few hours later, series creator Christopher McCulloch and series star James Urbaniak confirmed the news. "Unfortunately, it’s true: ‘Venture Bros.’ has been canceled. We got the highly disappointing news a few months ago, while we were writing what would have been season 8," said McCulloch (who uses the pseudonym Jackson Publick on Twitter).  "We thank you, our amazing fans, for 17 years of your kind (and patient) attention. And, as always, we love you."

"So, as it must to all, cancellation has come for ‘The Venture Bros.’ The pilot aired 17 years ago, which means the show was almost old enough to vote,” said Urbaniak, who voices Doc Venture. “It was one of the great gifts of my life & career. The fans were, quite simply, the best. Thank you, everybody. Go. Team. Venture!"

Public outcry about the show's cancellation was palpable, with The Venture Bros. trending on Twitter for hours. Eventually, Adult Swim had to address the situation, replying to angry fans via Twitter.

Part of the fan's frustration is due to the fact that the show's seventh season ended on a cliffhanger, with the tag that The Venture Bros. would return. To end the show in this fashion seems disingenuous after the devoted fanbase frequently had to patiently wait 2-3 years between seasons.  According to Variety, there are now talks about potentially moving the show to HBO Max but that outcome is still currently very far from becoming reality.
