X-Men: The Animated Series first hit our screens in 1992 and ran for a total of 76 episodes. The show was a hit and delivered a near-perfect take on the mutant team that still resonates with comic book fans.

It's hardly surprising that Marvel Studios is revisiting this animated reality in the upcoming Disney+ series X-Men '97, with most of the original cast back to pick up where the original series left off. Among them will be Cal Dodd as Wolverine.

Now, an upcoming action figure has offered a first look at the unmasked mutant with his claws out looking ready for a fight (and, based on what we've heard about the show, the team will have its hands full with Sentinels and Mister Sinister).

Wolverine has been at the forefront of almost all the X-Men '97 merchandise we've seen in recent months, suggesting the popular character will also be front and centre in the show.

Dodd previously revealed he's been working on season 2 of X-Men '97, news which has since been confirmed by Head Writer Beau DeMayo. One insider has claimed that the plan is for the show to run for a total of 4, an indication this revival has a bright future on Disney+.

The X-Men will eventually be rebooted for live-action, of course, and X-Men '97 seems like a great way to familiarise many fans with the team before they join the MCU. After all, Fox's movies are quickly becoming a distant memory and, outside of a few exceptions, are best off forgotten.

Hugh Jackman will finally suit up in Deadpool 3, and between that and this animated series, all signs point to next year being Marvel Studios' chance to bring these costumed heroes back and remind moviegoers what they're supposed to look like (no more black leather, please).

Take a closer look at X-Men '97's unmasked Wolverine below.
