X-MEN '97 Might Have Just Been Hit By A Massive Delay; Showrunner Beau DeMayo Responds

We hate to share more release date delay news with you, but yes, it appears X-Men: The Animated Series follow-up, X-Men '97, is no longer heading our way in 2023. Find everything we know after the jump...

X-Men: The Animated Series debuted in 1992 and ran for 76 episodes. The show was a hit with comic book fans and delivered a near-perfect take on the mutant team that still resonates today.

It's no wonder then that Marvel Studios is revisiting the franchise in the upcoming Disney+ revival X-Men '97, with most of the original cast returning to pick up where the series left off.

Needless to say, excitement for this one is rapidly building but with some MCU TV shows reportedly being pushed into 2024, will X-Men '97 be delayed as well?

We didn't think it would be, but a new rumour suggests the X-Men: The Animated Series follow-up will no longer arrive on the streaming platform this side of the New Year. Further muddying the waters is a Tweet from showrunner Beau DeMayo in which he neither confirms nor denies these reports, a far cry from him previously outright debunking the rumour!

Right now, it appears the only MCU TV shows heading our way in 2023 are Secret Invasion, Loki and, if we're lucky, Echo. We don't anticipate What If...? season 2 arriving this year either, unfortunately.

A couple of months ago, Wolverine voice actor Cal Dodd confirmed he's already working on season 2 of X-Men '97, and one insider has claimed the plan is for the show to run for a total of 4! That's very exciting news and suggests the X-Men: The Animated Series follow-up will remain on our screens for the foreseeable future.

The X-Men will eventually be rebooted for live-action, of course, and X-Men '97 seems like a great way to familiarise many fans with the team before they join the MCU. After all, Fox's movies are quickly becoming a distant memory and, outside of a few exceptions, are best off forgotten.

Check out the rumour along with DeMayo's cryptic response below.
