See you, space cowboy. In an executive producer's role, that is. John Cho, the actor leading the new live-action Cowboy Bebop cast as Spike Spiegel, is having a big week as not only is his Netflix series premiering, but another project of his was also previewed yesterday.
CTN Animation Expo is happening this week, starting yesterday and running through the 21st, and one of the things they kicked the event off with is a trailer for a new animated short titled Namoo, which means tree when translated from Korean. While John Cho isn't performing in the short in any way, he is the Executive Producer, which means he has much faith in this ambitious project.
Oscar-nominated director and writer Erick Oh is behind the feature alongside BAOBAB Studios, following up his massive success with Opera. Namoo, however, is very real for the creator as it is a narrative poem about his grandfather coming to life in brilliant animation. Quill, the VR animation tool, was used to capture the stunning imagery.
But what do you guys think? Are you interested in checking out this new film and learning more about it during the remainder of the CTN eXpo this week? Regardless, be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the comments!
Namoo (Korean for “Tree”) is a narrative poem inspired by the life of Oh’s grandfather. Following the key moments of one man’s life, the tree starts as a seed and eventually grows into a fully mature tree, collecting meaningful objects that represent positive and painful memories in its branches. The visually rich film, Oh’s most personal to date, was created with real-time VR animation tool Quill.
Namoo is receiving a special screening tomorrow at the CTN Animation Expo in the Outdoor Theater at 6:00 PM PST.
