"Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?" We all know who lives in that pineapple and as expected, everyone's favorite sponge is the most popular franchise on Paramount Plus, Paramount's subscription streaming service rebranded from CBS All Access earlier this year. According to Brian Robbins, who is both the CEO of kids and family alongside the head honcho at Nickelodeon, stated that the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise is a massive contributor to the platform's success.
SpongeBob alone brought more attention to the service than any other IP that dropped its way onto Paramount Plus since launching back in early March.
Robbins also attributed Paramount Plus' success to their dedication to supporting their legacy IPs, bringing up iCarly, which recently saw a revival last month with some of its original cast returning to their roles, as an example. The revivial didn't just bring eyeballs to the new content, but also drew attention to the original series as well.
Naturally, the family-oriented franchises are what Robbins believes to be the contributing factor to the platform's growth since its rebranding. It's also worth noting there's quite a bit of SpongeBob SquarePants content on the platform as we speak. Alongside the 12 seasons, we also have Kamp Koral, a prequel series featuring an aged-down SpongeBob and co at summer camp, and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run. We also have The Patrick Star Show, too.
