As part of Geeked Week, Netflix debuted the first teaser for The Cuphead Show!, an animated series inspired by the 2017 run-and-gun side-scroller.
One of the highlights of the teaser was the reveal of Wayne Brady as the voice of King Dice (the manager of Devil's Casino). In the actual teaser, King Dice welcomes the first contestent to "roll the lucky dice" but it unfortunately cuts off before we get to see anything meaninful happen.
Perhaps the biggest takeaway from the first teaser is that the handcrafted animation that made Cuphead standout among its peers seems to been translated nicely to the animated series. While the traditional pen-and-paper methods of the video game weren't used since it would take too much time to complete, The Cuphead Show! still features hand-drawn characters and movement.
The Cuphead Show! will follow the misadventures of Cuphead and Mugman across Inkwell Isles, exploring areas and meeting characters beyond those that we saw in the game. It's not a re-telling of the game or tied directly into it. Instead, it expands upon the overall concept and Cuphead universe. It's written so that it is appropriate for children, but also enjoyable for adults.
Unfortunately, we still don't have a premiere date for The Cuphead Show! on Netflix, but it's certainly one to look forward to.
