Thursday's edition of Geeked Week focused heavily on Netflix's upcoming slate of video game adaptations. We got new trailers for Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, Devil May Cry, and Cyberpunk. We also finally got a premiere date for Arcane Season 2.
The second season of Netflix's League of Legends-inspired CG-animated series was previously confirmed for November, and now we know when the actual series will debut -- November 9th!
In an interesting twist though, you will not be able to binge the entire season at once, as Netflix confirmed the season will be released in three acts spread out over the course of the month. Act 1 will premiere on November 9th. It will be followed by Act 2 a week later on November 16th, and then Act 3 on November 23rd.
We don't know how many episodes Season 2 will consist of or how many episodes will be featured in each Act. Season 1 of the show featured nine episodes which were also divided into three acts, but all of them were released at one time. This time around, Netflix is making us wait weekly, though we don't know why.
Netflix also revealed a new teaser video for Arcane Season 2. The clip, titled "Nothing to Lose," focuses heavily on Vi who appears to be engaged in some sort of underground fight club. Throughout the chaotic scene, we see very brief glimpses of Jinx (formerly Powder) and Caitlyn. We don't know exactly what's going on in the clip as we're sort of dropped in the middle of a mental breakdown, but it certainly teases a wild ride.
Based on Riot Games' popular MOBA video game League of Legends, Arcane tells the origin story of two sisters, Jinx (also known as Powder) and Vi, as they find themselves on rival sides of a brewing war between the utopian city Piltover and its oppressed underbelly Zaun.
"Powder and Vi are completely transformed by the end of the first season, as Powder becomes the mischievous Jinx and Vi proves she’s one champion you don’t want to mess with," Netflix teases.
As previously announced, Season 2 will serve as the finale for Arcane, but it won't be the end of League of Legends-inspired stories told through television.
“Arcane is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and partnership with the wonderful animation studio that is Fortiche Production,” said co-creator Christian Linke during a League Dev Update. “From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story of Arcane wraps up with this second season. But Arcane is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.”
