Netflix released its data for the Top 10 films on the streaming platform between June 26 and July 2, 2023, and the much-beloved animated feature Nimona, from Annapurna Pictures, debuted at #9. It's actually the second-highest animated film on the list, behind Paw Patrol: The Movie, which sits at #6.
According to the list, Nimona accounted for 5.5 million hours of viewing on the platform, across 3.2 million accounts during its first full week of release. These metrics are helpful as viewers and fans try to gauge the likelihood of Nimona receiving a sequel.
Nimona is the first animated feature that's also a Netflix Original to reach the weekly top 10 since Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio accomplished the feat last year. However, Pinocchio's numbers were much higher, as the award-winning stop-motion feature amassed 28 million hours of viewing in just 3 days [via Cartoon Brew].
Likewise, The Sea Beast was also a colossal success for Netflix. Released in June 2022, that film did not officially have its sequel greenlit until January 2022. If Netflix follows suit, fans of Nimona may have to wait a few months to learn whether there will be a second installment.
Also buoying hopes for a sequel are the film's high critic scores. The film currently has a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 77 reviews, with an audience score of 92%.

And as the lines between heroes, villains, and monsters start to blur, the two of them set out to wreak serious havoc - for Ballister to clear his name once and for all, and for Nimona to...just wreak serious havoc.
