Netflix let fans of Radford Sechrist' Kipo and The Age of Wonderbeasts sweat it out for a bit before finally confirming a third season is in the works. The bad news is that it will be the show's last.

Rejoice Kipo and The Age of Wonderbeasts fans! The quirky animated Netflix series will be returning October 12 for 10 new episodes to close out the funky futuristic tale of how the world became overrun with anthropomorphic creatures (lumberjack cats are apparently a thing in the future). The second season from the Korea-based animation studio Mir (The Legend of Korra, The Boondocks, The Death of Superman) dropped 10 episodes on June 12, 2020 and didn't receive the usual, accompanying renewal for a third season from Netflix. This led some fans of the show to begin worrying that the hidden gem might be in trouble.

Despite being sci-fi heavy, it's the show's representation of LGBT issues and diversity that raise it to another level. As such, both seasons currently enjoy a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The show also benefits from a stellar voice cast that includes Karen Fukuhara, Sterling K. Brown, Sydney Mikayla, Dan Stevens, Deon Cole and Coy Stewart.

In addition to the news of a season 3 renewal, Netflix has also released a somewhat spoilerish synopsis for the final season.

After dethroning Scarlemagne, Kipo and the Brunch Bunch face a more daunting foe: Dr. Emilia, who plots to eliminate mutekind to make the surface “safe” for humans. But Kipo has an optimistic vision of a world where mutes and humans get along with each other. To achieve that dream, she must lean on her friends and rise to a role she may not be ready for.

When Kipo is separated from her family, she must learn to navigate a peculiar and dangerous surface world full of adorable, but deadly creatures! Luckily, she won't have to do it alone.
