The KPop Demon Hunters phenomenon and hype shows no signs of slowing down. The breakout animated film has become one of Netflix’s biggest hits of the year, and now its signature track Golden by HUNTR/X had officially climbed and held onto #1 on both U.S. and global Spotify charts, where it currently held the top spot with 6.375 million daily streams. After the weekend it is now down to #2 but it is very close to getting back on top at #1. The song Golden also has over 72 million views on it's Youtube video as well.
The song has now spent four consecutive days at #1 globally, outpacing major releases from BTS and BLACKPINK, and continues to climb the Billboard Hot 100, where it jumped from #23 to #6 in just one week. This makes KPop Demon Hunters the highest-charting animated film soundtrack currently on the Billboard chart.
The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack, led by producers Teddy Park and Ian Eisendrath, has found massive success on streaming platforms, with all seven tracks charting strongly. Golden, featuring EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and REI AMI, has stood out as a cultural phenomenon and the biggest song from the film, blending theatrical K-pop energy with cinematic storytelling.
Speaking to Variety, Eisendrath said,
"K-pop is the most theatrical genre of music today. Our goal was to make each song serve the story, not just fill screen time."
The film has amassed over 95 million views since its release, putting it in Netflix’s Top 10 in all 93 countries, and reaching #1 in 33 countries including South Korea, France, Brazil, Mexico, and the Philippines. It would be surprising if it wasn't in the top 5 of all 93 countries either to be honest.
Director Maggie Kang has hinted that a sequel is already being planned, stating that the team is preparing announcements following the film’s unexpected success. The movie is also being submitted for awards consideration in both film and music categories. We will have to see just how many awards this breakout film will receive at the awards ceremonies.
