KPop Demon Hunters isn't quite done, done, done with theaters. Netflix announced today that its hit animated musical will once again be returning to the big screen as another limited-event sing-along showing. And this time, fans are invited to dress as their favorite character from the movie!
The KPop Demon Hunters Sing-Along event will return to theaters on Friday, October 31, and will run through Sunday, November 2. Seeing as how it's re-releasing on Halloween, Netflix is encouraging fans to dress as their favorite character while shamelessly plugging the officially licensed HUNTR/X costumes from Spirit Halloween, as well as merch from the Netflix Shop.
The sing-along will be shown in all three major U.S. theatrical chains: AMC, Regal, and Cinemark, as well as in select theaters. It will also be shown in additional theaters in the US and Canada, and internationally, including the UK, Ireland, Korea, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Australia, and New Zealand.
Tickets are slated to go on sale for the United States and Canada on October 17th at 6:00 a.m. PT. Showtimes will be listed here.
KPop Demon Hunters released on Netflix on June 20th and has since become a massive global hit, smashing streaming records. It became the most-watched Netflix animated original of all time as well as Netflix's most popular movie ever.
Its soundtrack has experienced similar levels of success with KPop Demon Hunters (Soundtrack from the Netflix Film) becoming the first soundtrack with four simultaneous Top 10 songs on the Billboard Hot 100. The main track, "Golden," even rose to No. 1 on the chart.
The first KPop Demon Hunters Sing-Along event took place in late August and was met with rousing excitement from fans. Although Netflix did not officially report box office numbers, it's estimated that the film pulled in $18 to $20 million in the United States during its two-day limited theatrical release.
Produced in partnership with Sony Pictures Animation (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse), KPop Demon Hunters is directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans with a script by Danya Jimenez, Hannah McMechan, Kang, and Appelhans.
The voice ensemble stars Arden Cho, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Ahn Hyo-seop, Yunjin Kim, Joel Kim Booster, Liza Koshy, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Byung Hun Lee, while the film's original songs are performed by EJAE, AUDREY NUNA, REI AMI, Andrew Choi, Danny Chung, Kevin Woo, samUIL Lee, Neckwav, and Lea Salonga. Just earlier this month, EJAE, AUDREY NUNA, and REI AMI -- the singing voices of HUNTR/X -- performed as a live trio for the first time with appearances on Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Netflix is reported to be in early talks with Sony to develop a sequel to KPop Demon Hunters, but nothing official has been announced yet. Meanwhile, creator and co-director Maggie Kang has already been sharing some ideas for potential sequels, alluding to Entertainment Weekly that a future sequel could flesh out HUNTR/X's backstories.
