Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 will be making its debut on Netflix in just two days. The animated series is based on the popular Japanese manga from the 1980s — which also served as the inspiration for the iconic 1995 anime feature film and 2017 live-action movie of the same name.
Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama both serve as the directors of Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045. Ilya Kuvshinov is responsible for the character designs — which these recently released character posters do a good job showing off. The animated series marks the first time that Ghost in the Shell has ventured into the realm of 3D CGI animation.
Earlier today, we reported on a new, official clip that Netflix has released ahead of the series' debut — which you can check out here. However, that's not all to come from Netflix regarding Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 prior to the first season's release but also confirmation that the series has been renewed for a second season.
Similar to the first season, Season 2 will consist of twelve episodes in total (via What's on Netflix). Aramaki will helm the series moving forward. It's said that the second season will wrap up the story — which means a third is unlikely. The voice cast will all presumably reprise their roles.
When should we expect to see Season 2? Well, that's entirely unknown. Many speculate that Season 2 could make its debut in 2021 or even sooner (within the remainder of 2020) given that they're already at work on it.
In the year 2045, the world has entered a systematic “Sustainable War.” Hired as a mercenary unit, the former members of Japan’s elite Section 9 are faced with the sudden appearance of “Post-Human,” a being with tremendous intelligence and physical capabilities.
Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 will be available to stream on Netflix from April 23rd, 2020.
