It's been a big week for Netflix animation, but the streaming giant saved one of its surprises for today. Dragon Age: Absolution was officially revealed today — fittingly as Geeked Week's final day today is focused on gaming and this is a new animated series based on the beloved BioWare fantasy video game franchise.
Set to debut in December of this year, Dragon Age: Absolution is set in Tevinter, the oldest human nation in Thedas which is ruled by powerful mages. It's a place we've heard much about in the games, but haven't actually visited, so it will be interesting to see it presented in the upcoming series. It's also rumored to be the location for BioWare's next Dragon Age game, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.
Beyond the setting, not much else was revealed about Dragon Age: Absolution's story. We did get a logline, which teases "an ensemble of new characters inspired by Dragon Age lore, including elves, mages, knights, Qunari, Red Templars, demons and other special surprises."
We did get a teaser trailer though, which you can check out below:
Dragon Age: Absolution was created in collaboration with BioWare and produced by Red Dog Culture House. The South Korean animation studio previously worked on The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf and the "Good Hunting" episode of Love, Death & Robots. The series is created by showrunner Mairghread Scott, whose writing credits include Transformers: Robots in Disguise and the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series.
Dragon Age: Absolution will premiere on Netflix in December 2022.
