Back in 2019, League of Legends developer Riot Games revealed a new animated series based on the developer's popular MOBA. The series was titled Arcane and the announcement was accompanied by a very intriguing trailer.

We hadn't heard much of Arcane over the last couple of years, but that changed today when Riot Games announced a deal with Netflix that will see the animated series release on the streaming service this Fall 2021. Arcane is being developed and produced by Riot Games in partnership with Fortiche Productions, a French studio that has already created numerous animated series and cinematics for Riot Games in the past.

Details about Arcane are still quite vague, but we do have a brief synopsis that reads:

Set in the utopian region of Piltover and the oppressed underground of Zaun, the story follows the origins of two iconic League champions-and the power that will tear them apart.

The new trailer doesn't elaborate on that anymore, but we do get another exciting look at some of the champions that could be involved. The original trailer released in 2019 featured champions from both Zaun (Caitlyn, Camille, Ezreal, Heimerdinger, Jayce, Orianna, and Vi) and Zaun (Blitzcrank, Dr. Mundo, Ekko, Janna, Jinx, Singed, Twitch, Urgot, Viktor, Warwick, Zac, and Ziggs).

“League of Legends has inspired global fervor and fandom and we’re thrilled to be the home of the first television series set in this universe, Arcane," said Dominique Bazay, Director of Original Animation for Netflix  The series promises to be a visually spectacular thrill ride that will have viewers on the edge of their seats.”

Shauna Spenley, Global President of Entertainment at Riot Games, added: Arcane was created as a love letter to our players and fans, who have been asking us for more cinematic experiences that dive deeper into the worlds and champions in League of Legends. Netflix, with its incredible global brand and shared goal of delivering premium, high quality content, is the perfect partner to help us bring Arcane to players around the globe.”

Arcane is set to premiere worldwide on Netflix in Fall 2021.

If the CGI remains as good as it has been in the past, this should be awesome!
