There Are At Least TWO Different Versions Of SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE Playing In Theaters

It's been confirmed there are at least two different versions of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in theaters, with dialogue and even what happens on screen changing depending on which cut you see.

Well, we definitely didn't see this coming.

In recent days, there's been chatter online about some scenes in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse being different from viewing to viewing. That's since been confirmed by two clips showing Spider-Man 2099 talking with Lyla.

The dialogue is mostly the same, but one scene ends with her snapping a selfie with Miguel O'Hara while the other does not! Another fan pointed out that The Spot's dialogue differs across two versions of the same sequence and the sequel's editor, Andy Leviton, later confirmed these claims are accurate.

It appears the format you see Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in will dictate which version of the movie you'll see and it's currently unclear whether there are any more significant changes than the ones discovered here.

We're assuming this is the movie's creative team having a bit of fun, though we also can't help but wonder whether this has something to do with the version which was sent out with improved audio following fan complaints. With that in mind, it's possible Sony Pictures took that opportunity to improve and edit a few unfinished moments.

This raises a lot of questions as well, of course, including which cut of Across the Spider-Verse should be considered the definitive one.

"A contender for the best Spider-Man film yet and easily the greatest animated movie ever made," we said in our review"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a jaw-dropping spectacle, a feast for the senses, and an instant Marvel classic."

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is now playing in theaters.
