Before
Detective Pikachu was a smash hit in theatres it was but another video game in the long-running
Pokémon franchise. The
Detective Pikachu video game was an adventure game which released exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS back in 2016. Similar to the new movie; Pikachu would team up with a human companion by the name of Tim Goodman (the player) in order to solve mysteries.
During the recent 2019 Pokémon press conference, the CEO of The Pokémon Company, Tsunekazu Ishihara announced a follow-up to the 3DS game (via
Polygon).
It's said that the sequel will release on the Nintendo Switch. Creatures Inc. will apparently return to develop the first game's successor. The game's story will pick up from the cliffhanger it left at - with Tim's father still missing and Detective Pikachu still without his memory. No further details were divulged but we'll be sure to let you know the second that more information is revealed.
While you'd think that a sequel to the
Detective Pikachu game has been announced on account of the movie adaptation's success, the game itself was a triumph in its own right - praised for its story, gameplay, and more. Here's hoping the sequel can capture that same magic.
