Bumblebee differentiates itself from the previous five Transformers films by stepping back from the bombastic end-of-the-world scenarios, aiming for a more intimate story, and taking much more influence from the original animated series.

It aims to appeal to fans of the classic Transformers, those which came before Michael Bay's action-abundant blockbusters, and it has evidently worked. While most were opposed to the previous films, Bumblebee has seen nothing but praise.

Clerks director and well-known nerd Kevin Smith recently gave his thoughts on the trailer, and its a sentiment that most Transformers fans share.
"I’ve never really gotten into the Transformers movies but the Bumblebee movie trailers are changing that!" Smith tweeted. "My God, this looks wonderful! Elias from Clerks II would be in tears (because I sure am)!"

Both Smith and the character Elias have made their love for the original animated Transformers abundantly clear. With the latest Bumblebee trailer showing off Autobots and Decepticons at war atop Cybertron and donning their classic "G1" designs, it's pretty clear that the trailer would be emotionally affecting to Smith and other fans who felt disregarded by previous live-action Transformers films.

What do you think of Smith's tweet? Do you feel similarly about the latest Bumblebee trailer?

Bumblebee drives into theatres on December 21st.
