With the long-awaited sequel to The Incredibles finally arriving in theatres, last month, the superheroic family is back within the conversation-sphere. As such, many fans' curiousity has only grown. One fan in particular was wondering the exact time and place both the iconic, animated family films are set in. They put their query to the film's director, Brad Bird, via Twitter.

While it's clear that the film's are set some time near the 1960s, given the style of vehicles and technology, The Incredibles 2 and its predecessor leave its exact date ambiguous as well as its setting - Bird's tweet reveals that this uncertainty is very much intentional.

Bird admitted how he finds fans' fascination with such specific details strange before giving as vague and explanation as the movies themselves. Check out his response below:

It's pretty clear that the films take place in an alternate universe of some kind given the extraordinary abilities of many characters in the films, though it's still intriguing to find out Bird's thoughts on the topic. Seeing as the previous Incredibles film came out a massive fourteen years ago, it stands to reason that Bird has done an expert job at making the series "timeless."
