Superman: Red Son is an acclaimed comic book by Mark Millar which imagines what would have happened if the last son of Krypton had landed in the middle of the Soviet Union instead of Smallville, Kansas.
It's set to be adapted into an animated movie by Warner Bros. Animation and directed by Sam Liu — who is reponsible for multiple previous DC Comics animated movies such as
Justice League vs. The Fatal Five,
The Death of Superman, and
Reign of the Supermen.
Bruce Timm and Sam Register are attached as executive producers. The former of those is best known for
Batman: The Animated Series as well as many other Batman animated series while the latter is best known for
Teen Titans GO! and
Teen Titans.
Just the other day, we got our first look at the Superman: Red Son animated movie in the form of a still — which featured the titular hero in a grey and red outfit with a hammer and sickle on its chest rather than a blue and red one with the traditional Superman symbol. Additionally, the full voice cast was revealed.
To name a few of the actors involved; Jason Isaacs (Star Trek: Discovery) will play Superman himself, Amy Acker (
The Gifted) will play Lois Lane, Diedrich Bader (
Batman: The Brave and the Bold) will play Lex Luthor, Vanessa Marshall (
Star Wars Rebels) will play Wonder Woman, Phil Morris (
Doom Patrol) will play James Olsen, and Roger Craig Smith (
Batman Ninja) will play Batman.
On the note, a still from the animated movie has surfaced online and reveals our first look at Batman. He appears to be much the same to how you'd expect the caped crusader to look, only he's wearing an ushanka on his head. In
Superman: Red Son, Batman actually goes by the name of Batmankoff and his parents were killed by Stalin's police force rather than a simple mugger.
