SpongeBob SquarePants is back on the big screen with a new movie SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge. The upcoming movie has moven its release date up and will be out sooner.
According to Deadline, the upcoming SpongeBob Squarepants Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge film will be out sooner than originally scheduled. The third film in the franchise will be out on May 22, 2020, a small push from the original July 17, 2020 date.
The other film in the same theater run is Godzilla vs. Kong, one film in the Monsterverse project by Legendary. The two other previous films in the SpongeBob franchise made a combined $465 million worldwide in box office.
There are few details regarding the upcoming SpongeBob film, there is no plot information but it has been confirmed that it will be a prequel taking place before the other movies and the television series. The movie will be an origin story with Camp Coral serving as the main setting.
It's a Wonderful Sponge hits theaters on May 22, 2020
