Part of what makes Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse so awesome (aside from it featuring Miles Morales) is the fact that it'll introduce fans to all types of different versions of the web-slinger. From the traditional Peter Parker to Spider-Gwen to Spider-Ham, fans are about to enter a world where more than one dons the mask. That includes veteran actor Nicolas Cage who was revealed at Comic-Con to be the voice of Spider-Man Noir.

The Marvel Noir multiverse is set in 1933 during the Great Depression.  Although Spider-Man Noir features many of the same enhanced abilities as the classic Spider-Man, his equipment differs greatly as it is much more steampunk-inspired. Though die-hard fans are probably familiar with this iteration, casual moviegoers are probably eager to see the character brought to life in the film. Speaking to EW, Cage revealed his inspiration for Spider-Man Noir.

“There are multiple Spider-Men in different dimensions that are kind of colliding together. My character’s Spider-Man Noir. He’s really Peter Parker from the ’30s. I tried to channel those noir films with [Humphrey] Bogart, and have those kinds of sounds that he might make with [James] Cagney, or Edward G. Robinson, that kind of way of talking. I tried to give the character that. It was a lot of fun. I think it should be quite funny. The movie definitely has a sense of humor, and that’s a good thing because it’s good for the whole family.”

Unfortunately, none of the trailers for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse have offered us a look at Spider-Noir; but, as a fan of Humphrey Bogart, I certainly like the inspiration.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative minds behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, bring their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind. Spider-Man™: Into the Spider-Verse introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.

The upcoming animated film is due out in theaters this year on December 14.
