Variety reveals that Sony Pictures Animation and Sony Pictures Imageworks are set to release a new short film set in the same world as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Titled The Spider Within, it will debut exclusively at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival this June. That event takes place between June 11 - June 17, meaning the short won't play in theaters in front of the upcoming sequel.
In this tale, Miles Morales struggles to balance his responsibilities as a teenager, friend and student while acting as Brooklyn’s friendly neighborhood superhero.
After a particularly challenging day living with these pressures, Miles experiences a panic attack that forces him to confront the manifestations of his anxiety and learn that reaching out for help can be just as brave an act as protecting his city from evil.

It sounds like pretty powerful stuff and while we don't currently have details on the short film's creative team, we'd guess it's been developed by the team who worked on Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. That likely includes franchise writers and producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
We're assuming this short will eventually be released outside of the festival, but there's also no word on that right now.
In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, after reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence.
However, when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.
Written by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller and David Callaham, and directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, Justin K. Thompson, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on June 2, 2023.
