Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse released back in December 2018. The film introduced a multiverse of webslingers both human and animal, hailing from the past and the future, including: Miles Morales (Spider-Man), Peter Parker (Spider-Man), Peter B. Parker (Spider-Man), Gwen Stacy (Spider-Gwen/Spider-Woman), Spider-Ham, Spider-Man Noir, and Peni Parker. However, the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse also included another multiversal webslinger in the form of Spider-Man 2099.
After the film's conflict was resolved, it featured a post-credits scene revealing that Spider-Man 2099 was observing the events. He promptly time travelled back to the iconic 1960s Spider-Man cartoon and recreated the now well-known 'Spider-Man pointing at Spider-Man' meme. Was this a tease for the inevitable sequel or a spinoff?
Well, now that we've gotten the first official trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One), we can answer that question. The trailer sees Gwen invite Miles for an adventure into the spacetime continuum and, while there, Miles is tackled by an ominous, larger Spider-Man. That version of Spider-Man is none other than the same one who featured in the first film's after-credits scene.
Not only will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse see the return of Miguel O'Hara A.K.A. Spider-Man 2099 but Oscar Isaac will reprise the role. The actor briefly served as the voice of Spider-Man 2099 in the aforementioned after-credits scene. Producers Chris Miller and Phil Lord have confirmed that Isaac, best known for starring in the Star Wars sequel trilogy as Poe Dameron and recently in Dune, will play Miguel in the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel — as you can see below — and they promise that he will not be boring!
Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar®-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) is coming exclusively to movie theaters on October 7, 2022.
