On February 14th,
Sonic the Hedgehog races into theatres for the first time in his very own live-action feature film. Ben Schwartz serves as the voice of the titular speedster while Jim Carrey plays the dastardly Dr. Robotnik. While many will be buying their tickets to see the former on the big screen for the first time; many will be checking in to see Carrey return to playing a comedic role.
Another wacky role that Carrey is known for playing is the Riddler. In a recent interview, the actor explained that the Batman villain and Dr. Robotnik are actually quite similar —
find out more on that here. In an even more recent interview with
Jake Hamilton, Carrey stated that he would be on board with returning to the role of Dr. Robotnik in the future.
This is actually quite a notable statement by the actor as Carrey isn't usually up for sequels. So, then why is he up for a sequel to the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie? Well, the actor made it clear that it's because inhabiting the role of Dr. Robotnik was simply a lot of fun.
"I wouldn’t mind going to do another one because it was so much fun, first of all, and a real challenge to try to convince people that I have a triple-digit IQ... There is so much room, you know, Robotnik has not reached his apotheosis."
In that case; here's hoping the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie isn't a one-hit wonder. Check out the full interview below (via

The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
