Since the movie's release, director Jeff Fowler has teased follow-ups on multiple occasions — most notably stating that the future is bright for the blue blur shortly after the movie's successful opening weekend.
According to a new report by
We Got This Covered, Paramount Pictures aren't only interested in sequels to the live-action
Sonic the Hedgehog movie but also spinoffs. From a reputable source, the site has learned that Paramount are eyeing Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to play the character of Knuckles (via
Gamefragger).
It's said that Knuckles will be introduced in
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and subsequently feature in his very own standalone movie. Paramount are at least considering such a thing. This certainly lines up with what we've heard about Johnson's potential involvement with the franchise from
Sonic the Hedgehog movie actor Neil McDonough —
find out here.
This solo movie would apparently delve into the origins of Knuckles the Echidna as the
Sonic the Hedgehog sequel itself would not. This lines up with what we saw of the Echinda tribe within the first
Sonic the Hedgehog instalment. What do you think of the report? Would you like to see Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as the voice of Knuckles and/or a Knuckles solo movie?
Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
