After being shrouded in mystery for months, Paramount's realistic take on the iconic character of Sonic the Hedgehog was revealed to the world back in April. Immediately, people were shocked and appalled by it. It was uncannily humanoid and even featured human teeth.
Thankfully, with the film's first trailer racking up almost a million dislikes on account of the character design; Jeff Fowler, the film's director, promptly responded by announcing that the character would be redesigned again. Ben Schwartz, the actor who will be playing the titular character, hinted that the new design would be more faithful to Sonic's typical look.
Tim Miller, one of the producers of
Sonic the Hedgehog, recently told
Variety that he concurred with the criticism of the uncanny design and that he thinks fans will be pleased with the imminent redesign. Asked whether he's seen the character's new look, Miller said this:
“I have. And I think the fans will be pleased.”
"Look, I was with fans and so was Jeff. When the s–t hit the fan, I went over there and said, 'The most important thing to do, man, is say, 'I f–ked up.' He’d already sent a tweet out an hour before I got there. He’s a good man. It was exactly the right way to handle that. The fans have a voice in this too. There’s a right way to listen."
Sonic The Hedgehog is set to arrive in theatres on February 14th, 2020.
